Demons 2 (1986)
More of a remake than a sequel, this one is even dumber than the first, and that’s saying a lot. The setting is now a huge sky rise apartment building which is full of annoying yuppie types. Various residents make the mistake of viewing on their television sets a documentary of the first demon epidemic in which four morons venture into the now sealed off “forbidden zone,” the area of the city the demons from the first film invaded. The area really is not so forbidden as the only thing preventing people from getting in is an eight foot concrete wall put up around the area! They stumble in and unwittingly bring back to life a demon, which in turn bursts through the TV set into the apartment complex. Everything from here on is the same as in the first film, everyone is locked in the building with no way out (why this happens I have no clue), demons running around slashing people, etc. The first “Demons” was pretty dumb, but the effects were good as well as some cool set pieces thrown in here and there. The effects in this one were pretty crappy, I heard that some of the f/x were cut for the U.S. print in order to achieve an R rating, but they are definitely not on the same level as the first film’s. To make things even more confusing, Bava used some of the same actors from the first film again, only in different roles. Bad acting, bad dialogue, bad f/x, and just plain BAD!
