Prison (1988)

Director: Renny Harlin

Yet another revenge from the grave film that has more good moments then bad. Some poor schmuck back in 1964 was wrongly fried for a murder he was innocent of. Seems the actual murderer was the prison warden who framed the prisoner so he could get his own ass off the hook. Well, years down the road the same warden is once again back at the prison, and the scene of his crime. Due to lack of room in other prisons the old place has been reopened. Of course, once the warden arrives back at the old prison all hell starts to break loose and many deaths occur due to the pissed off spook. The highlights were definitely the f/x which were very nicely done. We get a nasty death by barbed wire, man becoming one with about a dozen pipes, some human meltings, and other nice things. It did tend to drag on at certain times, and many ideas were introduced but never really explained. Why does the one character (the vanilla ice look alike) look exactly like the wrongly fried convict? Why the hell doesn't the ghost just kill the warden straight off, instead of wasting time killing other inmates? Probably because there would be no movie if that was the case, huh? One unintentially hilarious scene shows actor Tiny Lister (Zeus to you old WWF fans) taking a shotgun blast right to the chest from five feet away. He then proceeds to pound his chest like Tarzan, pick up the guy and body slam him. No wonder the guy once gave Hulk Hogan a run for his money, the guy is bullet proof! Anyway, lots of terrific f/x, decent acting, and one pissed off ghost make "Prison" a good watch.
