Firestarter (1984)
Real suck-ass film version of Stephen King’s excellent novel that boasts only one plus to it: special effects. Everything here seems rushed together with no sense of cohesion whatsoever, each scene just does not seem to gel with the next. The book worked thanks to King’s excellent character development, none of which is evident in the film. And what the hell was up with George C. Scott playing the character of Rainbird? That fake ponytail he wore really got on my nerves I tell you. The big plus here of course, is the f/x. The end scene of Charlie zapping everyone and everything with her firepower is pretty cool and looks quite good. When Charlie zaps you with her pyrokenesis stuff, you get nailed pretty good let me tell you. Other than that, this is typically regarded as the worst of the King adaptations and I wholeheartedly agree.
