Xtro (1983)

Director: Harry Davenport

After watching the British made and truly piss awful "Alien Prey", I swore never again would these eyes lay upon another British film dealing with aliens. My only excuse for renting this one was that I needed another flick for my "sci-fi scares" section and my local video stores sci-fi selection was a little sparse the night I rented this one. While playing with the family dog outside of their home, a father and his son are rudely interrupted by a UFO intent on snatching a human specimen. The dad gets taken for parts unknown, while the little boy tells mommy that a bright light from the sky snatched his old man. The mother however, thinks they were abandoned and soon she hitches up with an American photographer to start their lives anew. The couple and little boy now live in an apartment with a foxy French nanny, and all is progressing nicely. Nicely that is, until Daddy (who is now really an alien, don't ask how), makes his return to reclaim his son and take him back out to space. "X-tro" was really not as bad as I thought it would be. It had it's share of gooey f/x, alien attacks, midget attacks, and one creepy scene where a G.I. Joe doll comes to life to take out an old lady, you'll have to see it to know what I'm talking about. The whole thing was sort of muddled and confusing (like this review), so just try not to take any of it seriously and you'll be ok. The French nanny shows her tits and ass, a woman gives birth to a full grown man, and the ending is somewhat predictable, yet creepy in it's own way. "X-tro" was way better than I expected, but than again I never really expect much, making me rather easy to please.
