Return of the Fly (1959)

Director: Edward Bernds

Predictable yet fun sequel has the son of the original “Fly” trying to perfect dad’s teleportation device with the expected results. A backstabbing friend throws him into the device with; you guessed it, an unseen housefly. Vincent Price returns in the same role that he played in the first and it was good to see a sense of continuity from the first film carried into this one in terms of characters and sets. While the first “Fly” was a rather talky and dramatic affair, this one goes strictly into “monster on the loose” territory as we get a Fly creature with a bigger head, a Fly hand (perfect for strangling) and a big ass Fly foot roaming the countryside at night. While some of the ideas are redundant at this point (the talking fly head, etc) this one’s still a good watch and dare I say a tad more enjoyable than the original.
