Aliens (1986)

Director: James Cameron

Hey, if "Alien" was successful with just one creature, I bet a movie with hundreds of the things would be even more successful, right? Well, actually.....yes. Ms. Ripley is back to fight her arch enemies the aliens, with the help of a squad of marines toting some serious firepower. Seems the alien infested planet that Ripley and crew stumbled across in the first one is now hosting a group of human colonizers, unaware of the insectoid danger that lurks there. After the colonies transmitter signal goes dead, Ripley and the marines are sent in by the ever shifty Company to see what, if anything, has happened there. Of course we all know that the aliens had themselves a smorgasbord of human, and soon Ripley and crew are the next targets of the creatures.

Now, as has been said many times, "Aliens" really is a different film than "Alien". The first was a moody, claustrophobic film, full of suspense and all that good stuff. "Aliens" is more like a Rambo flick with tons of action, gunfights, and the like. It is never really suspenseful, I mean, there are some good jump scenes, but it's not on the suspense level of part one. And that's ok, because director James Cameron was clearly making a different film, and with this attempt he does succeed. I loved the scenes of the marines, guns a blazing, firing away at the swarms of aliens. Great stuff. The f/x and set design is top notch, loved the part where the marines are picking up the aliens on their infra red detector, and are unable to see em', because since the marines are unknowingly in the alien nest, the damn things are actually part of the wall! We also get a look at the alien Queen, which is simply an awesome sight to behold. The fight scene between the Queen and Ripley is simply classic stuff, and terrific fun to watch. All in all, a simply killer film all the way around.
