Terror Train (1980)

Director: Roger Spottiswoode

Average slasher that’s best known for starring Jamie Lee Curtis who, at the time, was reigning in as current Scream Queen Champion of the World. A group of college kids celebrating their graduation rent out a train trip to party down via a masquerade party for their last big bash together. Problem is, for some of them this really is the last big bash ever, as a killer is also on board the train. Who’s the whack job you ask? Hmm…maybe it’s David Copperfield as the hired magician, the elderly train conductor, or maybe, just maybe, it’s the deranged nerd who was tormented years ago after a cruel college prank went awry. Features some really bad acting and dialogue, but you knew that already, right? The concept of having the whole thing take place on a train as it races through the wintery Canadian countryside lends a sense of claustrophobia to the whole thing, and the idea of the killer stealing his victim’s costumes to hide is identity is fairly neat. There’s also a decent twist ending that I can’t believe I didn’t see coming, but an extremely slow pace, bloodless kills and some really bad disco music make this one a lame watch. Highly regarded by many fans, though I’m not really sure why.
