Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers (1988)

Director: Michael A. Simpson

Having been released from the nuthouse declared sane and with a complete sex change, psycho camp counselor Angela is back to weed out the “bad” campers from the good. This baby is your standard clichéd 80’s slasher and for a change, that’s a good thing my friends. The saving grace of this one is that it never takes itself seriously, providing all the slasher essentials (gore, standard characters like the slut, jock, and virgin, plenty of tit shots etc.) to go along with a nice tongue in cheek vibe that even gets to poke a little fun at other flicks like the “TCM”, “Friday the 13” and “Elm Street” series. Pamela Springsteen is a fun watch as the squeaky clean nut Angela, the prototypical “happy camper” who’s out to slay all those evil pot smoking and fornicating teens. Pam plays the character with a mix of humor and seriousness, and hey, you know what…it worked. She also knows how to go about a campsite massacre in style, utilizing drills, knives, acid, fishing wire, and even an out house to full psychopathic use. Sure, all the standard “slasher” plot devices are in full evidence and you won’t find to many surprises overall, but if you’re in the mood for a cheesy, tit-shot laden, psycho chick rampaging kind of flick, mixed with tons of sophomoric humor, then you’ll have a good time here at Camp Rolling Hills.
