Prom Night 4: Deliver Us From Evil (1992)

Director: Clay Borris

With this fourth entry in the “Prom Night” series and going along with the film’s underlying Catholic guilt trip theme, I admit I have a confession of my own to make. Now, realize I consider myself a real trooper when it comes to bad film appreciation, and I honestly can’t ever recall using the fast-forward button to maybe end some atrocious flick prematurely and perhaps go do something meaningful with my life. Ah, but I am only human my friends and temptation finally has gotten the better of me. This one was so bad and cliché’ ridden it was either fast forward or turn it off, and looking back maybe I should have done the latter. So yes, I used the fast-forward button and don’t regret it at all.

This one opens with a priest killing a couple making out in their car way back in the prom of “57”. The local Catholic Church then locks up the murderous priest for the next 30 or so years as they are convinced the priest is possessed by the devil. Years down the road he escapes to murder more teens on prom night, with the difference being that these teens have decided to skip their prom and stay the night at, you guessed, a secluded cabin which luck of all luck, the possessed priest has chosen as his hideout. Now throw every slasher cliché in the book including killer POV shots complete with heavy breathing, killer calling on the phone and virgin teen fighting killer at end of movie, and you have “Prom Night 4”. What pissed me off the most though, besides the standard moronic characters and retread story, was the “hinted” at nudity and lesbianism. The two female characters are constantly strutting around in various forms of lingerie and even get a little “close” with each other at one promising point. The kicker is not one damn boob is shown, and the lesbian scene is just a damn tease. For all you filmmakers out there making “Prom Night 10” or “Amityville 20”, you know your movie is going to bite, that’s obvious. However, if you give us plenty of Tits and Ass to look at I promise you…no one will fast forward through your movie like I did here. “Prom Night 4” is a fucking mess…avoid like the plague.
