Maniac Cop (1987)

Officer Matt Cordell was once called "super cop" by the newspapers, a "shoot first and ask questions later" kind of guy who had all the bad guys in New York running scared. However, Cordell was not to popular with the boys down at City Hall who framed him and sent him to prison, thus resulting in his murder by his fellow inmates, all to eager for a little payback. Flash forward several years later and New York City is under siege by a maniac cop, someone on the force who is offing all the good people of the city, and quite gruesomely as well. The first thing I thought of when I saw Mr. Cordell in action was to picture Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers in a police uniform. He walks stiffly, is big, impervious to bullets, and of course, has super strength. Now, in part of the story we are told that Cordell is not actually dead, so I'm a little lost as to where all the super strength and bullet proof powers come from. Oh well. Lots of great chase and stunt scenes are loaded throughout, as well as plenty of stabbings, slashings, neck poppings and the like which are all quite bloody and messy, as it should be. My only complaint was that there were quite a few plot holes, like the before-mentioned super powers, why does Cordell kill the good guys instead of the bad, blah blah blah. Don't worry though, none of that will get in the way of your enjoying this one. Entertaining stuff.
