Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1989)
Intense flick that was in stark contrast to the slasher flicks (Jason, Freddy) that were such the rage at the time. Michael Rooker plays ex-con Henry, a drifter type who pretty much goes from city to city, murdering various folks till it's time to move on and avoid the cops. This was one of the first films to get the dreaded "NC-17" rating, but don't come expecting some type of blood soaked gore fest, because you won't find it here. This film is not a stalk and slash type affair, but rather a serious and disturbing look into the mind of a true serial killer. Many scenes in this one will stick with you long after the film is over. The nasty "home-invasion" scene comes to mind, see it and you'll get my point. The scary thing about this one is that there truly are individuals out there who are like this. After watching this one you'll tell your wife or girlfriend to be a little more alert when they go out to the store or mall by themselves, trust me. Nicely acted and filmed for the low budget it was shot with, "Henry" is definitely one disturbing ride. Recommended.
