The Burning (1981)
Above average, yet still pretty crappy slasher flick from the early eighties. Starts out at a summer camp, where some kids decide to play a prank on the camps sadistic caretaker, Cropsy. The prank of course goes awry, and old Cropsy is burned to a crisp in the process. Six months later now horribly burned, he returns to get his revenge sporting a big pair of hedgeclippers. This film works on the level that it let's you get to know the characters pretty well before they are killed off, unlike many other slashers where the character is introduced than killed ten minutes later. The effects by Tom Savini are way to brief, though his burn makeup on the killer is pretty impressive. Contains your usual slasher standards: killer POV shots, teens going off alone in the woods to die, some bare boobs, etc. Best scene is when good old Cropsy takes out 5 teens in about 10 seconds with his trusty hedgeclippers. Look for a pre-Seinfeld Jason Alexander as the camps resident smart ass type. Wonder if he includes this film on his resume?
