Wolfen (1981)

Director: Michael Wadleigh

Ok flick that dragged in certain places, but was a good time waster regardless. A boring ass cop played by somebody who's name I already forgot teams up with Gregory Hines to try and figure who or what killed a big wig corporate type and his wife during a late night stroll in the park. Seems the corporate dude was planning on renovating a ghetto and putting up a big industrial park or what not in it's place. The cops are thinking a terrorist group did the murder, but ask the local Indians and they'll tell you who the real culprit was...a pack of fucking super-wolves!! I guess these wolves didn't want to be kicked out of their ghetto territory, thus the murder of the suit. There is a whole underlying theme dealing with the Indians/wolves, as the white man kicked the Indians out of their native land, and the same is happening to the said wolves...I think. These wolves, or "wolfen" are also eating the local bum population, as they are diseased and weak, so if you take your vitamins I guess you are safe. Most of the film deals with Hines and the cop guy walking around and investigating the murders, and it gets rather boring at times. However, just when you are about to nod off, in comes the excellent "wolfen cam", and you're treated to some kick ass POV shots of the wolves tracking down their prey. None of the kills are all that bloody, though we do get a nice chomped off hand or two, as well as a very good decapitation by super-wolf maw. That was pretty good. In closing, I want to say two things that confused me. Why was that Indian dude running around naked and acting like a wolf, and since at the end of the movie we see that the wolves are really supernatural beings (sorry) why do they give a shit about some ghetto when they are fucking ghosts? Other than those deep and meaningful questions, this one is good for a rental...seriously.
