Piranha (1978)

One of the best Jaws ripoffs, and a personal childhood favorite. Film opens with two teens hiking through the woods, in which they come across a deserted military base. Of course they break in, come across a large pool, and decide to go skinny dipping. Bad news for them, good news for the piranha that inhabit the pool. Did I mention these are genetically altered, super smart, super fast, super hungry piranha? Seems the government ran a sort of genetic program with piranha, resulting in a sort of super piranha, which quickly go to work chowing down on the two hikers. Pretty soon a missing persons investigator looking for the two teens stumbles across the base and unwittingly drains the pool into the local creek. Oops. The piranha, now in the creek, get to work quickly and begin chowing down on the local populace. Terrific scene in which the piranha invade a kids camp and start tearing into a bunch of ten year olds. Awesome. Cool scenes of piranha munching away on stupid humans, plenty of chicks in bikinis, plus Barbara Steele as a government scientist type....who could ask for more? Good fun.
