Devilfish (1984)

Director: Lamberto Bava
a.k.a. Monster Shark, Devouring Waves, Red Ocean

Simply incredible exercise in bad movie making by Lamberto Bava. The plot as it is concerns a giant 40 foot cross between a shark and an octopus ( sharktopus?) terrorizing the local swimming populace. Where this actually is supposed to be taking place I don't know, I'm trying to put most of this film out of memory. Simply godawful acting, story, music, and special effects. I never really knew what the hell was going on in this film. The movie leads you to believe the creature is a prehistoric shark, then they throw a plot line in which the thing was created by some government agency and on and on and on. The title creature looks like a big fiberglass tadpole with four tentacles behind it....not to mention it growls like a lion or something. Really lame. Bava hilariously uses the same stock footage shots of the monster, over and over again. To me, it's just the idea that even about 7 years after Jaws was released, Bava tries to cash in by doing a ripoff so after the fact, it is sort of sad. Even the nudity and sex scenes were handled poorly! How can you screw that up? For euro-horror fanatics and sadomasochists only.
