Alligator (1980)
One of the best of the many Jaws imitations that arrived in the late seventies and early eighties, and is a terrific entry in the nature amok genre. Even people that have never seen this one know the basics of it. Baby alligator gets flushed down the toilet, grows to be about 26 feet long in the sewers (thanks to a diet of genetically altered dogs dumped there by a lab, of course) and starts to move up the food chain. The acting is pretty decent and there are many running in-jokes throughout the picture (ex. the main characters struggle with baldness) that were a nice touch from the usual crap one bears witness to in these types of films. The alligator effects were a little cheesy, yet still pretty cool. Loved the scene of the gator crashing the mayor's fancy ass outside dinner party, introducing himself right away by chomping on the guests and whipping everyone with his big ass gator tail. Good stuff. Another thing that caught my eye besides all the gator mayhem was that of the very attractive Robin Riker who plays the leads love interest. A very attractive lady I must say. Alligator is definitely worth a rental and makes for good fun on a lazy Saturday afternoon.
