Nosferatu The Vampyre (1979)
Very cool and offbeat film. This is director Werner Herzog's remake of the 1922 classic, "Nosferatu". The main plus of this movie is the atmosphere, which is very surreal and dreamlike. I first saw this one on late night cable t.v. several year's ago as I was falling asleep, and I thought it was one of the strangest films I had ever seen. The character of the count is portrayed as more of a tragic figure, one who leads a truly cursed existence. One thing I thought was interesting, is the idea that as Dracula makes his move from Transylvania, he spreads the black plague wherever he goes. Terrific combination of music and photography makes this one a nice change of pace from the usual vampire crap.
