An American Werewolf In Paris (1997)

Director: Anthony Waller

Three American twenty-something's are on a daredevil tour of Europe armed with their bungee ropes and things of that "extreme sport" nature. Once in Paris, one of em' gets the idea of bungee jumping off the Eiffel Tower to get one up on his buddies. However, it seems they are not the only ones with that idea, for a young woman (the foxy Julie Delpy) has the same thought, san's bungee cord. Now since this is a movie, one of the American boys manages to grab her in mid air, dropping her gently on the ground, and getting a nasty bump on his head as his lifeline bungees back up, or whatever it is bungee cords do. Waking in the hospital, he is now smitten by his suicide gal, of who just happens to be a nurse at the same hospital he is staying. Gee, what are the chances of that? Lover boy is unaware that she is of course a werewolf, as is her brother (at least, I think it was her brother?) who leads a gang of fascist werewolves in an attempt to purify the human race. Our guy eventually gets bit, turns into a wolf, gets chased by the fascist wolves, eats one or two people, gets chased some more, blah, blah, blah. I will say I did enjoy some parts of this one, but the parts I disliked were far more plentiful. The attempts at humor never really work to well (except for that condom gag) and many come across like some crap you would see in an Adam Sandler movie. The funny parts are not funny, and the scary parts are not really scary. As for the special effects, some of it was decent but those CGI wolves? Man o' man, they looked like they belonged in a video game or something.....absolutely terrible. I don't care how advanced all this computer stuff gets, nothing will ever top the f/x in the original "American Werewolf in London", or "The Howling". I can't blame them for trying, but just watch the first one again. But hopefully you already knew that, right?
