Taken from the Samuel Adams website:
The first thing one notices in a Samuel AdamsŪ Winter Lager is its color: the deep brown of winter. Then comes the magical aroma which promises something special on the tongue. The warm aroma of cinnamon and ginger which blends with the roasty sweetness of the malted barley and hint of citrus from the orange peel. And after that first sip the promise is fulfilled. On the palate Samuel AdamsŪ Winter Lager is rich and full bodied, robust and warming, a wonderful way to enjoy the cold evenings that come with this season.
Well, I'll say this about Sam Adams "Winter Lager". It's good, and very, very drinkable. This one is a nice dark and malty bock, and is one of my favorite seasonal beers. I pick up at least a six pack of this beer every winter, and always look forward to it. It may not be the greatest offering, but for about a $1.50 a beer you can't go wrong with this baby on a chilly winter's evening. The cinnamon and ginger stated above is there in both aroma and flavor, but thankfully not in an overpowering way. It's basically a nice balance and like I said above, very smooth and drinkable. The beer has a very pretty dark reddish hue, and has a nice head when poured into the glass. Very smooth mouth feel and again, these go down nice and easy. The alcohol content is not overbearing, though after I sipped three of these I had a nice toasty feeling going on. Could very easily finish off a six pack in one sitting. A very nice beer and a yearly favorite of mine.
