From the Great Lakes Brewery website:
A complex, roasty porter with a bittersweet, chocolate-coffee taste and bold hop presence.
Wow. There is nothing I love better on a cold and snowy day than relaxing at my kitchen table, staring out at a nice winter sunset while putting away 3-4 of these beers. This brew just screams to be drank in the winter, as it compliments a nice meal and a mood of (drunken) contemplation rather nicely. One of my favorite porters, and probably one of Great Lakes Brewery's best brews is the "Edmund Fitzgerald". As any fan of a good porter knows, this sucker rounds up all those great porter styled flavors of dark chocolate and coffee into one very easy drinking beer. The alcohol content is just right, allowing you to put a away a few and actually remember your drinking experience, but still gives you a nice warm glow to fend off those winter chills. This beer is also not overly heavy, and has a surprising level of smoothness to it. There is a little bit of hops on the aftertaste, not so "bold" as in the description, but it's all smooth coffee/chocolate flavors on the aftertaste. If they made a cologne that smelled like a freshly poured Edmund Fitzgerald, I would wear it. This beer is some seriously good shit. How's that for an ad campaign? "Try an Edmund Fitzgerald, it's some seriously good shit". Nice.
