Tales From the Hood (1995)

Director: Rusty Cudieff

Fun anthology film that really took me by surprise. I was sort of expecting a cheap urban themed rip off of "Creepshow" in the blaxsploitation sense of things, but I will say I was proven wrong. Each segment of the film tries to tie in a serious social theme, be it child abuse, racism, or the problem of gang violence, and it all comes off quite well. The only segments which are of the highly predictable variety are the first and third, and even those are more fun than anything in "Creepshow". My favorite segment was the last one, in which a gang member goes through some "Clockwork Orange" styled treatment to stop his violent ways. Watch out for some particularly intense footage in this one. Decent acting and terrific f/x work are also prevalent; look for one kick ass Satan at the end of the film. Good stuff and "Rabid Ryan" approved.
