Dr. Shock's Tales of Terror (2002)

After watching this one, I can honestly say I've now seen somebody's home movies that were actually entertaining. Dr. Shock's "Tales of Terror" is a short anthology film featuring three quickies filmed on the cheap around Toledo, Ohio. For those of you who are unaware of the good Doctor, he was the local horror film host in Toledo from 1989-92 or so. I watched him when I was younger, and can say I was always entertained by his antics. Then again at that age, I also found someone who could spray milk from his or her nose funny as well.
Three segments, "The Town That Loved Pizza", "The Garden Tool Murders", and "Demons Day" shows you what can happen on a minuscule budget when directors Douglas Agosti and Lance Otto Smith get together. Sure it's all shot on a camcorder, no one can act, the f/x is crude (but lewd), but it sure looks like those who were involved were having a damn good time. "The Town That Loved Pizza" tells the tale of two aspiring entrepreneurs who move into a small town and open a pizza parlor. Their pizzas are "meat only" pies, and I'm sure you can guess what the meat is. Has some funny bits to it, and a decent amount of blood gets splashed around. The second short is "The Garden Tool Murders" featuring a nutty groundskeeper type who gives anyone who litters the old weedwacker treatment. Lots of noggins get ran over by mowers, weedwacked, you name it. I consider this one to be the most entertaining of the three. The last segment, "Demons Day" was somewhat confusing, but it did have lots of smoke bombs and a big demon bout at the end.
Many people will watch this and say, "god this is bad", and they are right. Then again, I don't think Mr. Agosti and Smith were out to make an Academy Award winning film here. This shows you what happens when people who possess a love for the genre get a couple bucks and a camcorder together and decide to make a movie. It may not always be pretty, but it sure is damn fun to watch. Recommended viewing with some good buddies and a case of beer. Long live Dr. Shock!! Click on the pic to visit the good Doctor's website.
